Long weekends are rare little gifts in the work calendar, aren’t they? It starts with Easter, followed by a little flurry in May, with a final treat in August. In my opinion, the Bank Holidays aren’t about grand plans, they’re about taking a beat, making some memories, savouring time doing the things I love with the people I love. Sometimes it’s hopping in the car for a weekend away, beach-bound with mates, or hosting a lazy roast at home - here's a few ways to make the most of it — cider in hand (of course).
Go Off-Grid - Even Just a Little
The heady bliss of feeling unbothered by time
This could be setting off on a yomp for the day that stretches into a night under the stars. Pack the car up with every temperature scenario and don’t forget to throw a few of these in with a bottle opener. A tech-free weekend these days might be a stretch but, you can gift yourself at least a day away from the screens.
Slow Roast Sundays
Board games, friendly faces and lashings of gravy
It’s a lot of prep, I know, but so worth the rewards. Crispy roasties, a choice piece of roast pork belly and a tasty vegetarian main is a must these days (Riverford has nailed the Nut Roast) - both pair beautifully with a chilled CHANCE apple cider. Get every mate to pitch in with a dish or a washing up shift - this should be a short but sweet flavour of commune-style living.
The Beach Calls
Cold dips, warm rays and a few games in the sand
Yes, it’ll be busy but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. Get prepped to spend the afternoon by the coast, this means remembering the suncream, moreish snacks and the CHANCE-filled cool box. The trick is to wait out the beach day-goers so you can soak in the last of the rays in quieter company. Extra points if your chosen beach allows safe BBQ-ing.
